Pour In Place Rubber Surfacing
Syberflex is the revolutionary, UV stable, poured-in-place rubber safety surface for playgrounds. The key component is our Liquid Rubber Top-Coat which is so strong that it eliminates the need for an EPDM cap. Simply apply our Top-Coat directly on to the base mat (also known as the shock-absorbent underlayment), and the surface will be ready to play within a few days.
S-y-B-e-R-flex is simply a single troweled layer of SBR and Binder finished with our state of the art Liquid Rubber Top-Coat (available in Blue, Green, Beige, Gray, or Yellow). No other acrylic rubber coating is as strong or water resistant.
Our maximum strength acrylic Top-Coat can also be used to seal and protect EPDM and/or Bonded Rubber surfaces. And unlike urethane coatings, our advanced acrylics perform perfectly even when exposed to UV. In addition to providing the highest UV protection, our Top-Coat eliminates the need for expensive colored rubber.
Certainly all outdoor poured-in-place surfaces should be sealed and protected simply because all urethane binders degrade when exposed to sunlight. Our Top-Coat stops that deterioration.
The amount of Top-Coat required depends upon the porosity of the underlying material. Bigger pores require more coating. When using Sparton SBR buffings (#98438), two coats of Top-Coat are needed. The first coat is be applied at a rate of 120 sq/ft per pail. The second coat is applied at a rate of 400 sq/ft per pail. The pails are 5 gallons each.
The liquid rubber penetrates into the pores and fills the surface voids, creating a solid rubber cap. Since the finished surface is not porous, water can be easily directed to the perimeter of the play area and/or to drains that can be installed under play system decks. Click here for a Drain Photo. Syberflex eliminates the problems caused by EPDM covered drains, and it resists the mold and fungus problems that can thrive in a porous product. A concrete sub-base with a 2% grade or steeper is recommended for Syberflex installations. If a compacted crushed rock sub-base is used, a grade of greater than 2% is required.
One other advantage to Syberflex is that seams are virtually eliminated. Now, a one or two man crew can complete a very large job without creating seams. Simply overlap the underlayment very thinly. Then apply an extra amount of our penetrating Top-Coat to bind the overlapping layers together. See the depiction below:

Please Note: Pour In Place rubber must be installed by a manufacturer certified installation crew. Pour In Place rubber is NOT a do-it-yourself project. Pour In Place jobs have a requirement of no less then 300 square feet, and prices start in the $12-$18 per square foot range.
